When I began the process of building this website I knew this would come The dreaded “About Me” page. So I started looking around at some of my colleagues sites to see what they were putting on their pages. It was always the same boring nonsense. “Went to yadda yadda High School or College, I like Southern Cooking and long walks….”. Do you really need to know that? How is that supposed to help you figure out if you want to work with this person? None of my colleagues seem to mention anything about why they chose a career in Real Estate. Now that’s something you can use. That’s important. Why did you become a Realtor? That can tell you alot about a person. So that is what I decided to write about. “..One Dream at a Time”. It is everywhere you look on my website. It is my slogan, and it means something to me. It has become a part of my life and it comes from many sources. One of those sources is my Grandmother. When her health began declining, I quit my job, packed up my apartment and moved in and took care of her. It wasn’t easy, but I wouldn’t trade the time I got to spend with her for anything. This wasn’t that long ago, and I was already a ”grown man”, but she taught me more about how to be a man in those 2 and a half years than she did for all my childhood. Just by the way she lived. And died. She was 87 when she passed. She had 4 children, 6 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She was surrounded by love and had many friends that would stop by and visit. She taught me that what you do in life is not as important as how you do it. How you treat people means more than any material thing or possession. Take away all that stuff, and all you have is you, and the people that love you. Treat them right and cherish them. They are what you take with you when you go. Even though she lived for 87 years, she made me realize life is short. I better start livin’ it. So I did some soul searching and tried to figure out what I wanted out of my life. What do I dream of? As funny as it sounds, I realized I don’t want to live in Georgia. I’ve lived here almost my entire life so far, but it just hasn’t felt like “home” in awhile. My heart yearns for something or somewhere else. That’s when I started seriously thinking about Kauai. It’s one of the Hawaiian islands. Ever since I learned about Hawaii in school I have been drawn to the islands. Almost obsessed. For awile it was all I could think about. I learned everything I could about Kauai but always thought it would never be possible so I just kind of let it go. I mean let’s be realistic, it’s expensive and my little 9 to 5 job certainly couldn’t ever provide enough money to make it happen. So I just gave up. Until…
In June of 2006 I finally met the Woman God made for me. She was, and still is absolutely perfect. She is everything I ever dreamed a Woman could possibly be. She has many great qualities, and one of them is that she also dreams of living in Kauai. Who knew right? I knew I had to act quick. Soon she would discover I snore like a stuck hog so I had to get that girl to marry me before it was too late. Lucky for me she said yes. When we started planning our wedding we decided we would get married in Kauai. So that’s what we did. We went and got married barefoot on the beach in Hanelei Bay, Kauai. August 18th 2007. The first picture you see on my homepage is actually from our wedding. I cannot find the words to express what that day meant to both of us and our families. So now that I had a “partner in crime” that shared my dream of Kauai, it renewed the desire to make it a reality. So after more soul searching I decided a career in Real Estate might be able to provide us with enough income to make it happen. What I didn’t realize at the time was how much hard work it would be. Or that I would actually be good at it. I also didn’t realize how rewarding it would be. I am helping people achieve their dreams. It truly is a great feeling. Becoming a home owner is something special. Whether it’s your first home or your last. It’s part of the American Dream. Little girls play with doll houses, little boys build forts with sofa cushions. And if you were really lucky maybe you had a treehouse. My first two (separate) clients were first-time home buyers. It was an amazing feeling to sit next to them as they were handed the keys to their new homes. They were in their 50’s. But at that moment they were two little girls that finally got their dollhouses. I will never forget it. That is why I do this. And everytime I’m successful we get a little closer to achieving our dream. One dream at a time. My Grandmother and Grandfather bought their house brand new in 1964. It was always well-kept and cared for. The grass was always cut, the garden was always tended to, the rope swing tied to the big Oak tree in the backyard was always ready and waiting. We had more holidays and family gatherings in that small house than I can count. We celebrated the new lives being moulded into our ever-growing family and we gathered there to mourn the one’s we lost. It remained her house until the day she died. Even though someone else owns it now, it will always be her house. It will always be Home. |
